Wishing Wednesday: Public transport in style

Wouldn't it be cool if public transport look a little bit like this?

"If there is one thing Ikea is fantastic at, besides making flat pack furniture, it's advertising. For their opening in Kobe, Japan, Ikea decked out trains with Ikea furniture and fabrics. Rush hour has never looked better."

Via Ikea Hacker

And more to the point, wouldn't it be cool if we could have and Ikea in Canberra?

I think we should start a petition... I'm taking part in the Handmade market and was thinking of putting a petition on my stall. I've had it said to me that ikea might damage small business here... but how about if it was placed in YAss or somewhere... mroe regional jobs and then it would be accessible for more people further out... What do you think?

FYI - IKEA are not interested in opening a store here. A number of Canberra business people have already looked into this.

The population is not large enough (generally needs to be around 1 million).

Doubtful a petition at a market stall is going to help. ;-)

Rats! You bet me to posting this.

As for IKEA I think we lost oue chance when Auckland was confirmed :-/

Perhaps someone should put together "IKEA Tours" from Canberra ina bus with a trailer for all the flat packs...

Sadly I have also heard that we don't have the population to warrant the presence of our very own Ikea...poo.

Though, in our defence, we have an interesting transient type of population, and a higher concentration of uni grads with new professional salaries who would be the ideal Ikea consumer.

Sherpa, loving the sound of the Ikea tours, or maybe a local transport company bringing stuff back monthly, to order?

Ooooh. That train looks delicious.
I can certainly see room for some extra funk on Action buses.
Well done nina. Thanks again for the eye candy.

Wow! The train is gorgeous.
I'd love an Ikea here too, but sadly it's unlikely to happen :(

BringitHome - a new concept for ordering and delivery of Ikea goods opens in Canberra

www.bringithome.com.au is an Ikea ordering and delivery service that has just opened in Canberra.
They provide hassle free online shopping and a door to door delivery service for Canberrans who love Ikea products but don't have the time, or a large enough vehicle, to make the trip to Sydney to shop at Ikea.

At BringitHome.com.au, they take your online orders for Ikea products, purchase the products for you then BringitHome to your doorstep.

Ikea is a cash and carry business and currently does not provide online ordering for interstate shoppers. This concept gives Canberrans the opportunity to shop for Ikea products from the comfort of their own home.

This is a brand new concept with their first Ikea trip planned for
13 Dec just in time for Christmas. Visit www.bringithome.com.au for more information.
